2017 Australian Indoor Skydiving Championships expecting 200 competitors from around the globe!

Next weekend we will play host once again to the 3rd Annual Indoor Skydiving Championships where local competitors will be joined by those from around the globe to battle it out for a championship title.

The competition will be held over two days (18th and 19th August) at the iFLY Indoor Skydiving Downunder (Sydney West) facility in Penrith. It is free to watch for the public.

Indoor Skydiving Championships are held in locations around the globe with Australia first registering as a host location in 2015.

“Each year the Australian championships are growing more and more popular” comments ISA Group CCO, Brett Sheridan “we have put Australia on the map for this sport, and we are incredibly proud of that”.

Australian competitors are considered some of the worlds most talented Indoor Skydivers; with Australian’s as young as 3 starting to train to compete in the sport.

One such junior superstar is Australia’s own Sarah Yates who at 13 years old has competed both nationally and internationally, placing 4th in the Junior Freestyle in the ‘Battle of the Blades’ competition in Seattle, USA.

Also competing for Australia is 12 year old Amy Watson who holds a Guinness World Record for indoor skydiving, was awarded 1st place at the Polish Open in 2016, placed 5th at the 2016 World Cup in Poland and earlier this year won the US Nationals for Junior Freestyle.

Amy and Sarah will be battling it out with World No.1 Junior Freestyle Champion and 5 x Guinness World Record Holder Kyra Poh; from Singapore.

This year competing for Gold are more than 200 competitors from all across Australia and the world; aged from 7 to 68 years.

“The great thing about Indoor Skydiving is it’s a sport for anyone, of any age, and of any ability”, says Sheridan.

“Our Championship is free for to watch for the public and there’s some awesome prizes to be won by the spectators” continues Sheridan “but I recommend people get in early, last year we were a packed house!”

The Australian Indoor Skydiving Championships will be held at iFLY Downunder located at 123 Mulgoa Road, Penrith on the 18th and 19th August starting at 12:00pm on Friday, 18th August.
